The General Assembly of the European Geoscience Union 2019

From the 7.4. until the 12.4.2019 our group leader Prof. Dr. Athanasios Vafeidis and the doctoral researchers Joshua Kiesel, Sara Santamaria-Aguilar, Leigh MacPherson and Claudia Wolff were at the General Assembly of the European Geoscience Union of 2019 in Vienna, Austria. There they held presentations regarding the coastal processes in the UK, Greece, Argentina and Germany. 

  • Joshua Kiesel, Mark Schuerch, Iris Möller, Tom Spencer, Athanasios Vafeidis: Attenuation of high water levels over restored saltmarshes can be limited. Insights from Freiston Shore, Lincolnshire, UK.
  • Sara Santamaria-Aguilar, Mark Schuerch, Silvina C. Carretero, Athanasios Vafeidis: Long-term trends and variability of tidal levels and constituents at Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata, Argentina.
  • Leigh MacPherson, Arne Arns, Sönke Dangendorf, Athanasios Vafeidis, Jürgen Jensen: A stochastic extreme sea level model for the German Baltic Sea Coast
  • Claudia Wolff, Athanasios Vafeidis, George Vafeidis: Spatially explicit urbanization projections for the Greek coastal region.

Update: Scenarios Forum - Forum on Scenarios for Climate and Societal Futures, 11-13 March 2019, Denver

At the 11-13 March 2019 our group leader Prof. Dr. Athanasios Vafeidis and the doctoral researchers Claudia Wolff, Jan Merkens and Lena Reimann were at the Scenarios Forum 2019 in Denver. The goal was to present new research and to exchange experience and ideas on scenarios with other researchers. The following presentations were held by our group, with the presentating person in bold:

  • Jan Merkens, Lena Reimann, Athanasios T. Vafeidis, Daniel Lincke, Jochen Hinkel, Sally Brown: Quantifying the exposure of population to coastal floods: Do gridded population scenarios yield additional information for impact assessment?
  • Claudia Wolff, Athanasios T. Vafeidis, George Vafeidis: Spatially explicit urbanization projections for the European Mediterranean coastal region.
  • Lena Reimann, Bryan Jones, Athanasios Vafeidis: Sea-level rise impacts on spatial population change under the SSP-RCP scenario framework.
  • Lena Reimann, Bente Vollstedt, Jana Koerth, Athanasios Vafeidis: Developing local socioeconomic scenarios using a multi-scale co-production approach.

Scenarios Forum - Forum on Scenarios for Climate and Societal Futures, 11-13 March 2019, Denver

The first Scenarios Forum – Forum on Scenarios for Climate and Societal Futures will be held at the University of Denver, Colorado, March 11-13, 2019.

 

We are happy to announce that we will host a research session (#14) entitled “Extending the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways for Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability research”. The session will be convened by representatives of the City University of New York and Kiel University, Germany.
